big roots in new forest trees

Healing begins when someone sees not just who you've become, but who you had to be

When I started my own therapy several years ago, I knew I wanted to feel more ‘at peace’.

I didn’t have the words to explain how I had been feeling for so long, but I had experienced glimpses of how I wanted to be.

And that’s what I told my therapist.

So that’s where we started. By unravelling how I had felt for so long 🧶 and gradually working out why.

With a compassionate ‘other’ sitting alongside me I explored my past and the experiences growing up that I would never have described as ‘traumatic’; they were the kinds of things that happen to us all. 💛

But those experiences had shaped me in significant ways.

I knew I had a tendency to be a perfectionist, as people would tell me all the time. But only through counselling did I come to understand why I developed that tendency and how it still impacted me decades later.

I will be forever grateful to my counsellor who helped me to understand and have compassion for the coping strategies my younger self developed.

Because that’s when change became possible.

If you don’t quite have the words to explain how you’re feeling or what you would like to get out of counselling, that’s OK.

Because that’s part of the work we do together.

When I meet someone for the first time, I'm not just interested in who they are today. I'm curious about who they had to be.

As that’s when healing often begins.

If now feels like the right time for you, let’s have a chat.
