I'm Kathy King, a therapeutic counsellor specialising in relational trauma — the kind that shows up as anxiety, self-criticism, people-pleasing, depression or the feeling that no matter what you try, something still feels stuck.
Maybe life looks manageable from the outside. You're functioning, coping. But inside there's a constant undercurrent of anxiety you can't quite explain...
You overthink conversations long after they've ended. You find yourself responsible for how everyone else is feeling — and quietly guilty when you put yourself first. Perhaps you're the person everyone else leans on, but you can't remember the last time you felt that supported yourself.
You tell yourself you should be able to manage. That others have it worse. That if you just understood yourself a little better, it would eventually shift.
But no matter what you try, something inside still feels unsettled.
And maybe, quietly, you’ve started to wonder:
“What’s wrong with me?”
There's nothing random about how you feel
The way you feel, react and relate today often makes sense when we understand what you've lived through, what you needed then, and how you learned to cope.
Relational trauma isn't always about one dramatic event. It can come from growing up feeling unseen, criticised, responsible for others, or unable to be fully yourself. Those experiences leave imprints — not because you're weak, but because you adapted.
Counselling gives us a warm, steady space to begin understanding that together.
Counselling with me is not about fixing something that is wrong with you.
It is a warm, unhurried space where we can gently explore what has shaped you, how you have learned to cope, and why certain feelings or patterns keep showing up.
Many people find that simply feeling genuinely understood — perhaps for the first time — is where something begins to shift.
Over time, sessions can help you move from that harsh inner critic to something steadier and kinder. From carrying everything alone, to feeling genuinely heard. From reacting in ways that confuse you, to understanding why — and having more choice.
I'm a fully qualified therapeutic counsellor, registered with the BACP. My training is in humanistic integrative counselling, and I have a particular specialism in relational trauma and its impact on how we feel about ourselves and relate to others.
My approach is warm, relational and compassionate. I believe your feelings and patterns make sense when we understand where they began — and that counselling can help you meet yourself with less judgement and more care.

Taking the first step towards counselling can feel like a big thing. You don't need to have the right words, know exactly what you need, or be certain it's the right time.
A free initial telephone call is a chance for us to have an informal chat — no pressure, no commitment. You get a sense of whether working with me feels right, and we can go from there.
If part of you feels ready but another part isn't sure — that's a very normal place to be. You're welcome to get in touch with a question first, or simply have a look around the site.
Warm, relational therapeutic counselling for anxiety, emotional overwhelm, low self-esteem, depression, trauma and relationship difficulties.
